A coupling bellows for an inertia brake protects the sliding rod of the inertia brake from dust, dirt and moisture. During braking, the sliding rod slides in as the trailer or trailer pushes. This activates the brakes. The sliding rod is made of steel and greased to slide as smoothly as possible. The coupling bellows prevents dirt and dust from getting into the grease and therefore allows the sliding rod to do its best work. As the coupling bellows is exposed to all weather conditions, it should be replaced in time to keep the inertia brake well protected.
Replacing the coupling bellows:
Important when replacing are the type and/or make of the inertia brake (found on the inertia brake nameplate), this determines the size of the coupling bellows.
Measuring the diameter on the coupling side and the diameter on the inertia brake side yourself is also an option. Note the slots, e.g. for the ball joint coupling mounting bolts.
Using wrench 19, disassemble the coupling bolts/nuts and remove the bellows. Fit the new bellows. It can be held in place with a flange.
Replace the clutch and tighten the bolts/nuts with the wrench or ratchet 19.
